In today’s fast-paced digital world, electronic devices such as smartphones have become an essential part of everyday life. While technology offers countless benefits, the growing amount of time spent on screens—especially among young people—can come at the expense of physical activity, meaningful social interaction, and opportunities to simply have fun together.
In response to this, the school launched a program on July 6 called “One Day a Week for Creativity, Friendship, and Fun!” Held every lunch break from 12:05–12:35 P.M., the program invites elementary and high school students to step away from their gadgets and enjoy traditional Filipino games. Led by teacher-volunteers serving as game masters, students can play familiar favorites such as Jolens, Piko, Sudsud, Jackstones, and Sungka, with a new selection of games introduced every other week.
More than just a fun way to spend lunch break, the program aims to preserve Filipino heritage by bringing traditional games back to life and passing them on to the younger generation. In line with the school’s “no-phone” policy, it provides students with an enjoyable alternative to screen time while encouraging friendship, creativity, physical activity, and camaraderie.
The program will continue in the coming weeks, introducing students to even more traditional Filipino games. With every game comes a chance to make new friends, rediscover Filipino culture, and create lasting memories. Stay tuned for more exciting games ahead!
